This class has taught me that it’s not only important to take care of yourself physically, but it is equally as important to care of yourself mentally and emotionally. This includes nurturing your relationships and taking care of your spiritual health. I learned how to lower my cholesterol and am in the healthy range to avoid diabetes without being on a diet. I think one of the strengths of this class was the Professor and the textbook she wrote. I felt like the textbook was challenging things in my mind that I did not care about or give any attention too, and that allowed me to really look inside myself for the answers I needed. I honestly loved the class, the discussions and every aspect of it. I learned to be consistent and patient with myself. It was this incredible process of learning. When I started this class, I was in a bad place in my life. I had just gotten out of the hospital, I was overweight and suffering from sleep apnea. I had to make some changes in my life, and I had to make them quickly. I have been a very blessed woman over the course of this semester to be in this health class learning, sharing, and changing along with my classmates. I was very grateful for the hard questions that I had to force myself to answer honestly—questions that have eventually begun to change my life. I have lost over 40 pounds since this class began, and I feel great—all thanks to Professor Cal! - E.L.

Not too long ago I was given an opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with Professor Calcagno and what a difference it made for me to meet the author of our textbook in person. The support and encouragement she has shown toward me since that day has been priceless. This textbook is a treasure book full of precious life changing gems. I am so grateful the universe led me to Prof. Cal’s course! I feel healthier in all areas of my life, emotionally, physically, spiritually since I started this class.  I feel more balanced and less stressed and overwhelmed now. I had no idea how much taking small steps in changing these various areas of my life would make such difference. I was not working out and now I am working out again 3 to 4 times a week.  I am mindful of what I eat and trying to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.  I am also reading more.  I was laying in my bed flipping through Facebook at night, now I am reading.  I am reading books that feed my soul and add to me. – J.J.

It is amazing that God can use and inspire someone to write one book that changes so many — encouraging them to live well and not die by not giving up on themselves. Professor Calcagno, you were and will always be the strength of every class.
